The 2015 Porsche Macan Debuted in Tacoma at Larson Porsche is an all-new compact luxury crossover SUV offered in two trim levels: S, and Turbo. Porsche has engineered it to drive more like a rear-wheel-drive performance car than most premium-brand crossovers and comes standard with an all-wheel-drive system that normally directs most of the engine’s power to the rear wheels, and only directs power to the front wheels when needed to maintain traction. Powering it is one of two engine choices: a turbocharged 3.0L rated at 340 hp (for the S model), or the more powerful 3.6L 400 hp V6 (for the Turbo model). Sources say the 3.6L is, “far and away the most powerful engine you’ll find in small luxury crossover SUV.” Both trim levels come with a quick-shifting automated manual transmission (PDK) like you’ll find on other Porsche sports cars. According to Porsche, the Macan S can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 5.2 second, while the turbo can do it in a blistering 4.6 seconds (4.4 seconds with launch control).
Other performance oriented components on the 2015 Porsche Macan Debuted in Tacoma include a sport-tune suspension and optional features like grippy summer-rated performance tires, an adaptive suspension and a torque-vectoring rear differential, and an optional air suspension that can be used to raise the Macan’s ride height to 9.1 inches. Standard equipment on the S model includes 19″ wheels, a power liftgate, active bi-xenon headlights, auto engine stop-start, power/heated sideview mirrors, cruise control, eight-way power front seats with memory settings, dual-zone climate control, full power accessories, leather/simulated suede upholstery, a 7″ touchscreen and an 11-speaker audio system with CD player and an iPod/USB audio interface, 40/20/40-split-folding rear seats, and Bluetooth connectivity. Upgrading to the Turbo means all of the previous features and adds unique 19″ wheels, a navigation system, unique front/rear fascias, LED foglights, full leather upholstery, Alcantara headliner, aluminum accents, heated front seats, a 14-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system.
Safety features of the Macan include six-piston aluminum monobloc fixed brake calipers that are internally vented for consistently high braking power even during continuous use, the Porsche Stability Management electronic control system that maintains stability and increases driving safety. It works by continuously monitoring driving direction, speed, yaw velocity and lateral acceleration. Other Porsche specific safety features include the use of ultra and super-high-strength steel that makes a crucial contribution to safety.
